Our “Essencia” Icewines are a category by themselves. We at Hafner call them this way to clearly distinguish between those with regular concentration and those with clearly higher concentration. If an Icewine of good quality (healty grapes) is harvested at -7 °C (19.4 °F), in a regular year its sugar concentration is about 26-28 % in the fresh squeezed (frozen) juice. (minium by law is 25 %).

But if we harvest at -10 °C (14 °F), the concentration of sugar in must is much higher, as more water is frozen even harder to Ice and remains frozen during pressing. Yield is about half of regular Icewine and this is already only about 30 % of a normal wine harvest!

This wine had 33.5 % sugar in must at pressing and features its extreme richness! Many diffent layers of secondary aromes such as acacia honey, caramel and white chocolate. Very interesting balance of sweetness and acidities and a finish forever!
